Chest Port Insertion
Today, I had my chest port inserted. It was a minor local anesthesia procedure where they insert the port just under the skin and the catheter is threaded into a large vein above the right side of the heart called the superior vena cava. Right! My thoughts exactly...Gesh! The device is used to draw blood and give treatment drugs such as chemotherapy and antibiotics.
I don't have the greatest of veins for IVs so of course the first nurse tried her best and missed twice, but Davour came to save the WHOLE day! First try and he was in! He was also my nurse during the procedure who talked to me the whole time and kept me calm.
I was on my way home 30 minutes later. (smile)
